Preschool - Week 13 - Letter L

This week was brought to you by the Letter L and the Number 12. :-)

Here's what we covered:

Language Arts:

- L Sound worksheet
- Here's a worksheet that E did this week. Sometimes she likes to color while C does her printing. E is really improving in her coloring and starting to mimic C's love of "rainbows":



Math:
- Number 12 worksheet
- Leaf Grid Game:
* I found the grid game on a great website called PreKinders.com. The girls loved "rolling" (aka throwing) the giant die and couting out buttons to put onto their grids. I'd love to do this again in the future and maybe include some of the neat manipulatives like are shown on the site:



Science:
- Lions
* Read books about lions, made a lion craft:



- Science Journal page:


Social Studies:
* Librarians
   - Read books about librarians
   - Went to the library to ask the librarians what their favorite thing was about their job. This was really hard for C because she is so shy. The first one I had to ask and C hid behind me with her face buried in my legs the whole time. The second time I threatened not getting a movie unless she asked the question and she did, although did not make eye contact. What do I do with that?

Sight Words:
* leaf, lion, let, little, look, love
* C's been doing much better with her sight words. I think she knows about 63 right now! Most of them she whips through but some are still a struggle (like "black" and "duck" which she often mixes up. the lower case b and d are hard for her to keep straight). I've been trying to add some variety to the sight words by making up worksheets for her, like this week and also by putting the words on the floor in silly sentences.



Snack:
* Lollipops :-)

Music:
* Lang Lang


Bible Stories:
* Read verses about the Bible being God's Word and talked about what that means

Preschool - Week 19 - Letter R

Here's what we covered:

Language Arts:
- Letter of the week craft:

- Handwriting worksheets (rainbow, letter R, printing R)
- R Sound worksheet

Math:
- Number 18 worksheet
- R Counting worksheet
- Brought back the grid game for the girls to play (with Roses in the grid):

- Rectangles (C used our kiddie camera to do a photo-hunt in the house and take pictures of rectangle shapes she found)

Science:
- Raccoons (read books about raccoons, used a measuring tape to see how big they are, weighed a fork in our hand to feel how light a newborn raccoon is, made a raccoon heart craft)

- Science Journal page:

Social Studies:
- Russia (read books on Russia, found Russia on the globe, practiced saying "DAH" and "NYET" for "yes" and "no")

Sight Words:
- red, run, rain
- Only three words this week. C is still struggling with the "Q" words - especially confusing the lower case "q" with lower case "p."
- We are up to 88 words! I've decided to break up her words into two stacks, and only go through one half at a time. I'll include the new words each time, but going through them all is taking quite a long time...

Snack:
- Raisins

Music:
- Maurice Ravel (when the second song came on, E said it sounded like someone had died. Oddly enough, the title was "Pavane for Dead Princess.")



Bible Stories:
- Joseph Forgives his Brothers, Jesus wants us to be thankful
- Made a magazine collage of things C is thankful for (hair, friends, dogs and celebrations):

Game/Activity:
- Rhyming
   * I had C match up these rhyming word puzzles, from a set she got for Christmas. This was good reading practice, too. Her first guess for some words wasn't correct, so I asked her to sound out the words to help her make the match ("plate" vs. "dish")
